I’m having a real hard time getting back into the swing of things. My computer revolted against me a few days ago and abruptly shut off in the middle of my daily updates. Since dayum near my entire life is on my MacBook, I hoped and prayed that it was just the battery. Turns out…whatever I’d just downloaded had corrupted something. The Apple genius man told me that they could get my computer back up and running but it was a possibility that ALL MY DATA would be gone!
Less than 3 hours later, I got a call that confirmed my worst fears. All was LOST! *sigh* All my event photos, all my 10,000 itunes songs, all my exclusive videos that I saved on my harddrive since YouTube booted me. EVERYTHING!
I’d just been in the middle of editing an old school memory video that I’d done with Slim from 112 where he talked about club Esso and Atlanta Jams with Arnel Starr, cutting class and hanging out at five points back in the day. It was so hilarious when I found out he went to George High School and I told him that my aunt used to teach there. On camera, he asked “Who is your aunt?” and when I told him the look on his face was priceless! He immediately told me to “cut!” and the video ended there. My point of the video was that Atlanta is such a big city but is so small in many ways. There is always a very small degree of separation and most people who grew up here can be linked to each other in some crazy way. Oh well…that video is forever lost.
The good thing about my MacBook is that I used the Time Machine feature (once or twice) to back up my data. The bad thing is that was way back in January. So as I sit here happy that 9,874 of my 10,000 songs can be recovered, I still feel some emptiness at losing over a month of unpublished and undocumented work. Such is life. I guess I’ll live. But from now on I’m backing up EVERYDAY!
A big lesson learned the hard way. I never knew my computer had so much power…

DAMN!! I feel your pain!!! Sorry about the lost! I would love to have seen Sims face when you mentioned Aunt Max. I bet that was hilarious.
Oh well you are good at what you do so I know you are moving forward and we all wait with baited breathe on the next episode! Smile!
